An object which returns the value of the specified <reference>. The reference is a reference to a value, not a reference to an object. The value of the reference is returned by calling the default operator for the object. If a single argument is passed to the default operator, then the reference is subsequently set to the value of the argument and the prior value of the reference is returned.
